Wine Tasting/Socializing

Foundation Course is designed to provide an in-depth overview of major grape varieties and their regions, in addition to a focused introduction to tasting and sensory analysis. The 6-week course also covers key concepts of grape-growing and winemaking. The goal is to expose students to the impact of climate and soil on a grape’s expression in the glass, in a fun and engaging atmosphere

Course Outline

1.      Introduction: an introduction to how grapes are grown, wine is made, tasting components and procedure

2.      France: from Burgundy to Bordeaux to the Rhône and beyond

3.      Spain: Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Rias Baixas, Cava and more

4.      Italy: touching on some benchmark grapes and styles from the land of a thousand varieties

5.      Southern Hemisphere: Chile, Argentina, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand

6.      USA: closing the course right here at home, with standards from California, Oregon, Washington and New York

For a pro-rated fee, prospective students are welcome to sit in on one class of their choosing in order to experience the course first-hand.  The fee will be applied towards tuition should you enroll in the next section of the same course
