Roxane Shafaee-Moghadam received a degree in fine art (sculpture) and chemistry from Mount Holyoke College and intended to become a doctor. Upon college graduation, Roxane worked at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center as a research assistant for several years. But ultimately, Roxane combined her love of research and art and unite them in the work of a sommelier.
Roxane’s first position in the industry was as Sommelier at Tribeca Grill in New York. Since that job seven years ago, Roxane has been passionately focused on serving and writing about wine ever since. Roxane received her Advanced Sommelier Certificate from the Court of Master Sommeliers in October 2010 and will be featured in the upcoming book On Mastering Wine. Nominated as a Starchef’s Rising Star Sommelier, Roxane is currently the Sommelier and Beverage Manager for Top of the Point Restaurant at The Breakers. While serving as Head Sommelier at Per Se in New York from 2006 through 2009, Roxane upheld standards that lead to Per Se’s recognition as the 2008 Best Restaurant in the Americas as named by Restaurant Magazine.
And in the restaurant is not the only place Roxane is on the run – she ran the 2010 NYC Marathon as part of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center’s team.
