ABOUT THE COMPETITION
The sixth Best Sommelier in America competition will be held on April 16th and 17th at New York City’s Jumeirah Essex House. The event attracts the nation’s leaders in the hospitality and beverage industries to compete and judge, and a group of spectators with a demonstrated interest in wine.
The competition is a series of exams designed to test service & blind tasting skills, food & wine pairing acumen, and advanced theoretical knowledge of wine. The two-day event culminates in the Awards Gala on Sunday, April 17th, at which the results of the competition will be announced and the inaugural Art of Service Award presented.

The field of 30 is narrowed to four finalists who will go head-to-head in a series of exams that test their blind tasting and service skills, food & wine pairing acumen, and advanced theoretical knowledge of wine. Candidates will progress one at a time through this sommelier obstacle course in a mock dining room environment in front of a panel of industry leaders who will judge their performance…in addition to a gallery of spectators.

SILENT AUCTION
A silent auction will be held during the Awards Gala reception to benefit City Harvest, Le Bernardin’s charity of choice.
A PERFORMANCE BY ELAINE KWON
A special performance by concert pianist Elaine Kwon will open the Awards Gala dinner. Elaine holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Piano Performance and is a Lecturer/Affiliated Artist in the Music Department at Massachusetts Institute of Technology where she teaches piano and music theory.
